Kaws reinterprets fine art through a commercial lens, applying his background in street art to clothing design, toy production and brand collaboration. His company, OriginalFake, partnered with Medicom toy in 2012 to create this cast vinyl figure of Companion: Resting Place. This particular version shows KAWS’s trademark character “dissected” to reveal human muscles, organs, and a brain under its cartoon-like exterior. These figurines underscore the balance between the commercial and the artistic, drawing inspiration from the work of Claes Oldenburg, Gerhard Richter and Chuck Close.
Importantly, this particular example comes with Kawsone proof of authenticity. It also comes with the original box and is in excellent condition.
