Continually captivated by nature, Kiki Smith proclaimed, “I dream about birds, birds are stand-ins for souls.” Her work is collected by major institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum and the Tate Modern while her representations of birds are extensively collected by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.  The artwork offered here, created as an original lithograph with glassine collage on wove paper, is hand-signed by the artist in pencil and dated, measuring 19 ¾ x 16 ½ in (50.2 x 42 cm), from the unnumbered edition of 100 as issued.

Kiki Smith

Kiki Smith is an American artist born in Germany 1954. She is a pre-eminent figure in the artistic movement that unites the human condition the natural world. Working across a range of media including photography, drawing, printing and painting, she has explored explores self-portraiture, anatomy and female iconography. Her Feminist art is concerned with the cultural and political roles of women. Her images are often disturbing depictions of the human body.
