Technique: Original Hand Signed and Numbered Lithograph in Colours on Arches Wove Paper

Additional Information: This original lithograph in colours is hand signed in pencil by the artist “Marc Chagall” at the lower right margin. It is also hand numbered in pencil from the edition of 50, at the lower left margin. This work was printed in 1984 by Fernand Mourlot, Paris in a limited edition of 50 signed and numbered impressions. There were also twelve artist’s proofs of only the black plate reserved for Chagall. The paper bears the Arches watermark in the lower right corner.

The Artist

Marc Chagall

Marc Chagall began using printmaking techniques when he was 35 years old. He produced a lot of lithographs, etchings, and woodcuts while residing in Berlin, Germany, during the time. The art dealer Vollard hired Chagall in 1923 to illustrate the Bible, La Fontaine’s Fables, and The Dead Souls by Gogol.
