Note: This one of 12 compositions created to celebrate Nice and the Côte d’Azur. The large-scale lithographs each contain references to the coastline, in particular the easily recognisably Baie-desAnges (Bay of Angels). It was created in collaboration with Charles Sorlier and is considered to be the finest suite created from this partnership. Walter Erben notes that: ‘The Southern French landscape had astonished Chagall with its wealth of colours and its lyrical atmosphere had captivated him with the beauty of its flowers and foliage.’, this is beautifully embodied in ‘Woman with Bouquet’.
