Etching, sugarlift, drypoint with Chine collé
Lüpertz’s paintings, prints and sculptures are distinguished by their figurative style, often locked in a rigorous geometry, his emotive colors and sensuously textured surfaces, of which Abend #1, Abend #2 and Abend #3 are good examples. This series of three intaglio prints use a variety of techniques. The raven, inspired by Manet’s etchings for Poe’s “The Raven,” is executed in velvety aquatint. Lüpertz’s deeply carved and ecstatically mobile drypoint lines provide contrapunto and activate the picture.
