This suite of three prints by LA-based artist, Math Bass is an extension of her ongoing series of paintings titled, “Newz!”. Using symbols and forms originally drawn from movements found in performance and video, the series employs symbols from a lexicon of forms, creating compositions of bright solid colors, basic geometric shapes, and recognizable symbols that slip back and forth between representation and abstraction.

Math Bass began her career primarily as a performance artist, but she has slowly been recognized for her paintings, sculptures, video, and prints. Bass employs the symbols and colors akin to sign systems to create a visual vocabulary . Her compositions play with signs, space, and movement, allowing for multiple interpretations of the same image.
