Photographer and printmaker Norman McBeath focuses on people and places. Collections to hold his works include those of the National Portrait Gallery (London and Edinburgh), Royal Scottish Academy, Scottish National Library, British Library and Harvard University.
His work has been shown as part of exhibitions at the Leica Gallery (New York), the National Portrait Gallery and Royal Academy of Arts (London), and the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and Royal Scottish Academy (Edinburgh).
In response to his photographs, award-winning writers have produced original work including Jeanette Winterson and A.L. Kennedy. McBeath has collaborated with poets such as Paul Muldoon and Robert Crawford.
In 2015, McBeath was awarded a Fellowship at the Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Co. Mayo, Ireland. ‘Light Box’, a collaboration with Robert Crawford in response to the UNESCO 2015 International Year of Light, was launched at the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
