Technique: Original Hand Signed and Inscribed Etching on Van Gelder Zonen Wove Paper

Additional Information: This original etching is hand signed in pencil by the artist “Klee” at the lower right margin. It is dated in pencil ‘1930’ in the lower left margin. It is also inscribed ‘K 10’ in pencil next to the date. Our impression is one of 30 on Wove paper. There were also 13 impressions on Japan paper. It was printed by Hans Klingler, Leipzig and published by Cahiers d’Art, Paris in 1933.

Other impressions of this work can be found in the collections of the Detroit Institute of Art, Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, Museum of Modern Art, New York and Staatsgalerie, Stuttgart.

Note: This subject was included in the deluxe edition of the book ‘Paul Klee’ by the eminent German art historian, Will Grohmann published in 1933. Provenance: Collection of the French composer Pierre Boulez (1925-2016).

Pierre Louis Joseph Boulez (26 March 1925 – 5 January 2016) was a French composer, conductor and writer, and the founder of several musical institutions. He was one of the dominant figures of post-war contemporary classical music. Boulez was also one of the most prominent conductors of his generation. In a career lasting more than sixty years, he was music director of the New York Philharmonic, chief conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra and principal guest conductor of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra.

Reference: Kornfeld 106.Bb Condition: Very good condition. Pale moisture staining along the left and upper sheet edge, though far from the image. The paper slightly rubbed in the lower margin.
