The Six Prophets of the Annunciation, after Stradanus?
Engraving, ca. 1572. Hollstein (Goltzius) 8, New Hollstein R2, second state of three. A proof of which only four others are recorded, all in museum collections, with the letters in the tablets but before the four lines of verse in the inscription space
Provenance: Franz Josef Graf von Enzenberg (1802-79) Lugt 845, a collection that contained many rarities; Kurt Klemperer (L. 5268)
A brilliant, rich impression, with a few practice strokes showing near the lower plate edge, thread margins all round. A horizontal central fold lightly backed, visible but unobtrusive on the recto. Remains of old hinges, some with attendant thin spots and a stain in the right margin, a tiny repair in the left margin at the fold. Generally in excellent condition. 440 x 292mm.
