Creating Kaleidoscopic fields of visual sensation and cultural references, artist Rachel Harrison combines a wide range of mediums including photography, painting, sculpture, video, installation and architectural interventions. For this limited edition artwork, produced especially for Whitechapel Gallery, Rachel Harrison collapses several portraits into a single image. Through her practice of painting photographs, Harrison takes a medium designed in many ways for multiplicity and converts it into a unique work. With the edition this process is reversed, but also acknowledged through the matching of both the reproduced paint and photograph with the colour bar.
Greene Naftali, New York, represent Harrison and she has exhibited in London (Camden Arts Centre), Europe (Kunsthall No. 5, Norway), as well as in America (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art). She has featured in group exhibtions at the following institutions; P.S.1 Institute for Contemporary Art, Long Island City, New York; Brooklyn Museum of Art, Brooklyn, New York; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; the ICA, London and the Royal Academy, London.
The British Museum, Whitechapel Gallery and Hiscox Collection have pieces of her work.
