This impression presents a copse of slender, bare trees with intertwining branches, all set against a solid black background. Unevenly illuminated from an equivocal source, they appear to advance and recede alternatively in space; the trees and branches, along with the inky interstices between them and the edges of the plate, establish a carefully orchestrated rhythm.
