One of the most experimental & courageous printmakers of the 20th century, Robert Motherwell’s, Untitled #6 (from The Basque Suite) demonstrates the bold, highly saturated areas of color and flat surfaces for which screen-printing is known. This original print is hand-monogrammed in pencil and numbered, measuring 40½ x 28 1/8 in. (103 x 71.4 cm), unframed. From the edition of 150, the artwork is referenced in the artist’s catalogue raisonne as Engberg/Banach 84 | Belknap 55.

Robert Motherwell

Robert Motherwell was an American Abstract Expressionist painter, a printmaker, and editor. Most famous for his Elegy to the Spanish Republic (a series to many people’s surprise), Motherwell’s work often contains bold background colours with thick asymmetrical paint strokes (often in black), such as Red Queen, Homage á Picasso, and of course as mentioned before, Elegy to the Spanish Republic.
