Description

McGinness explores the female nude, starting with a drawing, then refining it until he achieves a highly abstracted representation of the figure. In this playful series of screenprints, he deconstructs the figure and rearranges its parts into a visually tantalizing composition of shapes and fluorescent colors. The resulting prints are equally engaging under ambient and blacklight.

The Artist

Ryan McGinness

American Ryan McGinness was born in 1972 and lives and works in Manhattan, New York. He is painter, sculptor and installation artist who employs graphic design techniques by using logos, symbols and letter fonts in his work. His work can be found in the permanent public collections of numerous art institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Cincinnati Art Museum and the Misumi Collection in Japan. McGinness studied at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on an Andrew Carnegie Scholarship, during which time he was an intern at the Andy Warhol Museum as a curatorial assistant.
