Lady Hare Holding Dog (2001) features Sophie Ryder’s signature character of the Lady Hare, inspired by Picasso, Goya and Henry Moore. The Lady Hare was a counterpart to Ancient Greek mythology’s Minotaur. Here, the Lady Hare is cradling a dog, seemingly by the light of the moon. The connection between animals and humans is a theme which runs consistently throughout Ryder’s work.
