A UNIQUE PROOF, JUSTIFIED “STAGE PROOF” AND SIGNED BY THE ARTIST, OF A VERY LARGE, INCREDIBLY INTENSE, AND ENTIRELY UNRECORDED LITHOGRAPHED PORTRAIT OF SALMAN RUSHDIE.
During his sojourn at Harvard’s Carpenter Center (1993-1994) Tom Phillips created five portraits (four lithographs and an etching with aquatint) of Salman Rushdie. Sylvan Cole Gallery has acquired a complete set–surely the only complete set, as even Phillips himself doesn’t have this one–of the five, all of which are exceptional proofs. This one is by far the largest and the rarest, as it is one of only 2 or 3 proofs printed (the print was never editioned, and is entirely unrecorded).
On extremely fine wove paper.
In perfect condition.
