Among the YBA’s most celebrated names, Tracey Emin has established herself as an artist not only of great depth, but of variety. Most known for her autobiographical work which focuses on self-interrogation, her most celebrated and controversial pieces are those which examine turbulent childhood experiences and sexual history. She has described her work as confessional, labelling her work with titles which often convey exactly what the viewer is intended to see. In this little print, the title alludes to the breakdown of relationship; of being at once ‘closed’ off to the other and to one’s own self. As in Emin’s best work, it is a piece that is both relatable and self-referential.
