Hsiao Chin, a pivotal figure in abstract art and cofounder of the Ton-Fan Art Group, has dedicated over five decades to redefining abstract art beyond Western norms. His notable work, “La forza Della meditazione” (1964), which fetched $963,063 at a 2018 auction, embodies the Movimento Punto—a movement he initiated in Milan in 1961 that blends Eastern spiritual philosophies with abstract expression. Having spent significant time in Europe since 1956, Hsiao merged Western modernism with Zen and Taoism, crafting a unique abstract style. His contributions were celebrated in a major 2020 retrospective at the Daugavpils Mark Rothko Art Centre in Latvia, highlighting the spiritual depth of his work.
