AN OUTSTANDING EARLY PROOF SIGNED IN PENCIL BY THE ARTIST, printed before the scratches that deface almost all impressions of this rare print.
Petermann (102) knew only of impressions signed by Lehmbruck’s widow Anita, and the impression reproduced in the catalogue raisonné was printed from the damaged plate.
Petermann observes (p. XII) that Lehmbruck’s drypoint engraving is so delicate that only three or four truly outstanding impressions could be printed from each plate. This is one of those impressions.
On fine wove paper.
