Original, highly sought after hand-signed poster published for the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games. Artists were commissioned to create posters that were used to promote the Olympic Games and Hockney painted a swimmer that has become an iconic image. This poster is hand-signed which makes it exceptionally rare as it is believed that fewer than 200 hand-signed posters exist.

David Hockney, born in 1937, is a prolific 20th-century British artist renowned for his diverse exploration of painting, printmaking, drawing, videography, and digital art. In 2018, his “Portrait of an Artist” set a record, selling for $90 million.

The Artist

David Hockney

Born in Bradford England on the 9th July 1937 David Hockney was interested in art from a very early age, and was an admirer of Fragonard, Picasso and Matisse. The fifth of six children his parents encouraged his artistic experimentation. He went to the Bradford College of Art 1953-57. To fulfil his national service, he worked in hospitals as he was a conscientious objector to war. Then in 1959 he was accepted into the Royal College of Art, Graduate school in London.
