By Joan Miró
Joan Miró (1893-1983) was a pioneering Spanish artist known for his distinctive style that merged surrealism, abstraction, and elements of folk art. Born in Barcelona, Miró began his career as a painter, but his versatility extended to sculpture, ceramics, and printmaking. His early works were influenced by post-impressionism and the Catalan avant-garde, but over time, Miró developed a unique visual language characterized by bold colors, organic forms, and playful imagery. His work was often deeply symbolic, with recurring motifs such as stars, moons, birds, and eyes, which evoked both the innocence of childhood and the complexity of the subconscious mind. Miró’s ability to evoke a sense of freedom and imagination made him one of the most important figures of 20th-century modern art.
