Rose Window 33B
Relief on Handmade Paper
24″ x 24″ Unique 2006
$3500
This work, part of a large two-year project, focuses on the geometry of the rose window of the great cathedrals of Western Europe. Devised only after the arrival of Arabic numbers and geometry from the East, the design of rose windows relied on this new math. Artist Mary Judge hand drew the elements of each petal of her designs. These were refined in a computer-aided design (CAD) engineering software program and sent to a laser cutter where 18gage steel forms were produced. Inked and assembled on the press, these steel elements were printed on delicate handmade paper.
