»Wrapped Globe« is the last limited collage edition that Christo could still design. We see a globe placed on the back of a naked human. Christo has chosen a photograph from the 1960s of a globe. This globe is wrapped with a transparent foil and tied with thread and finally hatched by hand with colored chalk. In its wrapping, the globe appears fragile, like something that is sensitive and needs to be protected. In Greek mythology, it is the Titan Atlas who carried the globe on his shoulders – Christo continues this mythological motif, varying it slightly and choosing a female figure for it. Christo’s »Wrapped Globe« is a concise collage – it gets to the heart of one of the most important themes of our present: the vulnerability of our earth.
