From Turner prize winners to Magnum Photographers, artist collaborations are at the heart of what we do, and we have published limited editions and multiples by Michael Craig-Martin, Cornelia Parker, Richard Deacon, Bella Freud and many more. Our Wellcome Collection range was nominated as a finalist for ACE’s 2018 Product Awards, while our Magnum Photos range was selected for an art and design pop-up at Le Bon Marche in Paris in 2017. We’ve worked with the Mayor of London’s Culture Team on major public art projects – joining forces with David Shrigley in 2016 and Michael Rakowitz in 2018, we published a new limited edition and ranges of artist-designed products to accompany their Fourth Plinth commissions.
Q4. In the early days of your gallery, what are some of the artists, prints or artworks that you dealt in?
Gillian Wearing, Ding Yi, Julian Opie and Beatriz Milhazes.
Q5. Who are the main artists or art movements that your gallery now specialises in?
As Sketched, we publish limited editions that explore the artistic mind, from Maggi Hambling to Assemble. We feature work by YBAs such as Gillian Wearing and Fiona Banner and champion the work of artists of colour from Yinka Ilori to Rita Keegan, and from Rashaad Newsome to Alisha B Wormsley.
Q6. If you could invite any three artists (living or no longer alive) to a dinner party, who would they be and why?
Mark Bradford strikes me as effortlessly cool. No doubt Yayoi Kusama would bring equal parts levity and philosophising in her bright red wig. Then, imagine being able to watch Van Gogh react to the news of his posthumous life, that his work was on pencil cases and fridge magnets around the world.
Q7. If you could own any one particular artwork, regardless of value, what would it be (title, artist), and why?
David Hammons’ mash up of a crystal chandelier with a basketball hoop – could be fun to pretend to slam dunk on it.
Q8. Who is your favourite artist of all time, and why?
Deborah Roberts, her collages are unbelievable – urgent, necessary, evocative.
Q9. What are some of the recent acquisitions made by your gallery?
This year we have been working with Southbank Centre to develop limited editions by the artists in the Hayward Gallery’s In the Black Fantastic exhibition, which is currently touring. We also developed limited editions with artists, such as Rita Keegan, who reinterpreted Althea McNish’s work at William Morris gallery.
Q10. What advice would you offer print collectors in building a collection or simply buying prints?
Buy something that really speaks to you.
