Artist Submission Description
‘Zviri Mandiri’ is a commentary on the effects of migration on identity, a sense of belonging, and the importance of preserving traditional practices. The use of latex resembles skin, both in colour and texture, as our bodies become vessels that archive a collection of untold and forgotten stories.
Artist Statement
My practice is dedicated to preserving memories of spaces and surfaces that may one day be lost. My work documents the surfaces, textures, marks, and fragments of overlooked and forgotten relics of the urban landscape as a way of exploring our collective memory and identity. Inherent in my practice is an interest in migration and the stories it brings with it. I aim to highlight the mundane and everyday details of these stories, bringing to the observer aspects they might not have previously acknowledged due to automated familiarity.
