The 1920s sees the end of the the Russian Civil, the creation of Communist Party in China and Gandhi preaching for mass civil disobedience. The first television broadcast takes place in Scotland, Route 66 opens in the US together with carving work starting on Mount Rushmore. Penicillin is discovered with other inventions including frozen food, the electric razor, talking movies and the quartz clock.
Expressionism and Surrealism were popular art movements in the 1920s that originated in Europe. Replacing elaborate styles associated with Victorianism, a new artistic movement called Art Deco flourished throughout the 1920s.
