“New York City, since World War II, has been considered by many to be the epicenter of art and culture.  In the 1950s, artists came from all over the world to live and work near one another, catalyzing new and exciting artistic movements.

Among those who rose to prominence are Jasper Johns, Ellsworth Kelly, Claes Oldenburg and Robert Rauschenberg, and all are now supremely respected within the art world.  While living in New York City, each of these artists worked towards a radical alteration of the basic notion of what artmaking could be, by expanding upon the Abstract Expressionists’ aggrandizement of scale and intensity of effect, and through the innovative use of materials or formal approaches.

The prints these artists made throughout their careers also altered the concept of the graphic medium, and many have become iconic masterpieces in their own right, regardless of their editioned medium.”
