Parisian born LA based artist Thierry Guetta (1966 – ) aka Mr. Brainwash (MBW) is known not only for his career as a filmmaker but also for his career as a street artist. Introduced to the street scene by his cousin Invader (Space Invader) Mr. Brainwash is relatively new to the street/contemporary art world.
Like other street artists such as Banksy and Blek le Rat he incorporates famous images of the well known – from Madonna (who he created the album cover for her “Celebration” CD based on the photograph Jean-Baptiste Mondino shot for Bazaar magazine in 1990) to Queen Elizabeth (Queen Aviator), and even Albert Einstein (Love is the Answer) – he generates work in a pop-esque manner. These works revolve around cultural iconography in brilliant colours with splashes of paint in which he adds phrases to them such as “Life is Beautiful.” This phrase too acts as his mantra, and can be found on all of his unique works as part of his signature and authentication process.
